Ongoing Series where we tackle the specific skills needed to master one trail
Trail: PAINT IT BLACK
Saturday May 27th, 1pm-3pm
In this series of skills clinics, we’ll pick one trail to master at a time. We’ll cover the essential skills needed to be great on this one trail. Kanuga’s Paint it Black is a black rated tech trail. To be great on this trail, you’ll need to focus on effective body position to handle the numerous rock gardens, drops, roots, and off-camber traverses. You’ll need effective braking skills to scrub speed before those features, and some effective line choice to strategize where to go, driving the bike in control. To go faster, you’ll need great pressure control skills to be able to absorb the tech and float over things that would otherwise throw you offline. We’ll cover those skills individually in a controlled environment and apply them on Paint it Black itself.
This clinic is appropriate for all level riders wanting to gain more control, confidence, and have more fun on this specific trail. Learn how to master this trail with intentional bike driving techniques instead of just surviving it!
Newer riders will be introduced to intentional techniques to get down the trail in control with confidence.
Intermediate and advanced level will benefit from refining their fundamental skills while learning ways to carry speed while maintaining control and traction.
Josh Whitmore is our head coach and one of the highest certified and most experienced mountain bike instructors in the country.
We’ll start with an intro to listen to your previous experience and goals, then set expectations and a plan for the clinic
Then, we’ll move into a skills assessment and work through the essential skills needed to master this trail in a separate controlled environment.
After we refine our skills in a controlled environment like the skills area we’ll take to the trail and session some of the common features found on the trail.
Lastly, we’ll apply it on the trail itself to practice what we’ve learned.
